how ld does my new hamshire red rooster need to be before he can fertalize the eggs?

Usually 16-18 weeks but I've heard of many that were doing the job before that. If he's mating with the hens just crack a few eggs to check for fertility too make sure the job is being done properly before you allow a hen to set or fire up the bator.
