I'd do a necropsy, & post photos of what you find. Are you up for it?

I did this for mine to determine the cause of death.

I am truly sorry for your loss. He was beautiful.
I agree with @MysteryChicken on doing a necropsy. Maybe you can send him to your states lab or ask a chicken friend to do it for you if the emotion is too much to handle.

i might see about the state lab (but dead is dead so it really doesn't matter what caused it)
it doesnt seem to be effecting any of my hens so thats good
