Rooster eye swollen shut sluggish

:welcome

I'm sorry that Froghorn is not well.
It's hard to see, does he have bubbles in the eyes or mucous in the nostrils?
Inside of the beak and throat is clear of mucous, canker or lesions?
I agree with the others, flush the eye (use saline or sterile water), press out/remove pus and apply an ophthalmic ointment.

The slowing down and slowly sinking the head into the body with eyes closed is concerning. He may have more going on than just a swollen eye.
Have you added any new chickens to your flock in the last 30 days?
Where are you located in the world (state/country)?
Hi and thank you. I have gotten Terramycin, wiped his eye gently with warm water and applied the ointment. I did see puss and gently wiped what I could away. It looked as if there was a dark red area under the upper eyelid (possibly injury?), but the more obvious is a larger yellow bubble on the lower lid. Unfortunately I did not have enough hands to grab a picture while having hands on him but this one is better than the previous.

We live in rhode island. We have had a lot of rain the past few weeks? We have not added chickens in the last 30 days.

Any nasal discharge/bubbly-sounding breathing/sneezing/open-mouth breathing?

when I found out my flock had MG, I was super upset, but it's not as bad as I expected. Birds usually only show symptoms when they are stressed. It is usually not fatal, all my cases have been very minor. It's like them getting a cold, annoying, but not serious. Just don't sell chickens.

Update on Froghorn, because I know everyone is thinking about him every second of the day like I am right!? ....

His eye has opened, still swollen but appears to be working better (blinking). He appears more active, eating and even mounted a few hens throughout the day. I just applied a second hit of the antibiotic ointment and I noticed that his nostrils do seem a little dirty/clogged? No mucus or discharge but almost look completely blocked with dirt? I tied wiping a little with the warm water and gauze pad while we had him pinned down, but couldn't get it to look clear. I'm not sure if it fully clogged, doesn't look infected or anything, just really dirty. Is that something I should dig into further? I don't want to force dirt into his nasal passage. Or will he clear it out himself as he heals up?

Thank you guys so much for your advice. You saved me a ton of stress and googling!!

The dirt in his nostrils might be clinging to mucus, but if it doesn't look wet upon first glance it might not be. It's fine to leave it alone until he's healed, unless it seems to mess up his breathing. I'm glad he seems to be getting better, it's always great when a bird heals from its injuries.

I would continue as you have been doing with the ointment in the eye, hopefully he just got a peck, but that yellow is interesting - keep watch on that.

IF the nostrils get clogged up more, apply 1 drop of Perxoxide then use something like an orange stick (for manucures) to pick some of the debris out. Chickens get all sorts of dirt/debris in the nostrils, so if he doesn't sound "snotty" I would leave it be for the time being.

Thank you so much! Will do. I'm so happy his energy seemed to be back up this morning and his eye is way better. I hope it's the same story when I get home this evening. Thank you again. Love this group!

Perfect, Thank you so much!
