Rooster gasping for air!

What are you calling Avitrol? Can you please post some photos of the product?

Is her crop emptying overnight?
@dawg53 knows more about worms and de-wormers than I do. I "think" that Levamisole will treat Gapeworm.

THANK YOU for getting back to me so quick!
Her crop has been empty for 2 days - she's not eating. Her poop is now only the white stuff.

Note at the top of the directions - "not to be used in food producing species" but this product is the only one that is recommended for gapeworm

Avitrol is 17mg/tablet
They recommend 1.5tablets for a bird up to 1kg
So my 3kg girl should get 4.5 tablets giving 76.5mg levamisole

Kilverm is 14g/l levamisole
I think that's 14mg/ml
So to get the equivalent dosage - 5.5ml

is my maths right?

so if this isn't working - any other ideas? Keep giving her a daily dose? Double the dose? I'm a little worried at this stage about doubling the dose - she's had 3 doses in 3 days.

and how do I get nutrition into her? Is my syringe liquid feed enough? I keep asking her to just give me another hour - I'll make her better :(

I would give the Avitrol and see if that helps.
You don't plan on eating her do you? Throw away any eggs she lays for a few weeks after the last dosing.

Thank you so much for responding! Truly appreciate it. Sadly Livvy was just too exhausted to wait for me to find the right treatment. 🥺

I found a liquid avitrol that is indicated for gapeworm with a withholding period of a week. It'll take a few weeks to get it here but I'll order enough to treat the rest of my flock and my neighbours (hers are right next to mine). They're not showing symptoms but with 2 dead girls its only a matter of time.

thinking I need to rearrange my garden and move them to a new run & coop as soon as I've treated them. Or is that overkill 🙄 my heart can't take losing another one anytime soon.

THRILLED I've found these threads!

I'm sorry about Livvy :hugs

Does your neighbor's chickens visit yours? Has she had any respiratory illness in her flock?

Thanks. Poor girl. She was my sweet shy one. She'll be missed.

They don't visit but they share a fence from time to time. I've read that gapeworm can spread through slugs and bugs and wild birds - those can cross the fence line.

No respiratory illnesses in any of them that I've seen.

She's had a bird die with a swollen abdomen
