Rooster hanging upsidedown for 4 hours, leg seems to be dislocated

I have a small coop enclosed with wire that has really tiny holes and it looks like as my rooster went to jump of the walkway his middle toe got caught and hung up for I don't know how long. I saw him hanging there when I got home for work and thought he was dead. When I got to him he was still moving. I got him out and held him and he talked away the whole time, probably telling me what a terrible mom I was. So I have him in a crate with clean shaving and food and water which he did gobble down and started him on antibiotics. But his leg is stretched out and he doesn't seem to be able to get it under him. I felt around and it doesn't seem to be out of the socket and nothing feels broken. I was wondering if anyone had any advice, I was going to give him some time to see how things went. He is a Salmon Favorelle and I waited so long to get him this just stinks! He is the sweetest bird.

no advice other than to wait it out. However, he shouldn't be on antibiotics if he doesn't have an infection. Electrolytes maybe, but not antibiotics.

Unless there's an infection I wouldn't give antibiotics...

You can dissolve a baby aspirin in his water for the pain...I know I'd be a hurting unit, if I hung upside down all day...

It could just be one helluva sprain.
Which will heal over time.

I agree. Time and no antibiotics when you don't have infection.

I had a roo get upside down last week. He was sore and humilated by the hens picking out his roo feathers

He's OK now though, slight limp.

We had some barred rock pullets get hung up in chicken wire last year. Two strangled themselves trying to get free. One was upside down like yours hanging by a leg and never used that leg again but hopped around using her good leg and balancing with her wings slightly outstretched. Another was hanging by 2 legs upside down and after a few days recovery moved around like nothing had happened. Time will tell.

Yeah I think if you give him some time he will probably recover. Poor guy.

He was probably telling you his aweful experience and how happy he was to see you. Good luck.

eta: maybe if he is not moving it tomorrow you could do some physical therapy on him.
