rooster has black inside and outside of beak after fight

Hello I have a seven year old rooster that got in an awful fight about 6 weeks ago we nursed him back to health but now it looks like his beak is rotting its cracked and is turning black on the inside and out at first I thought it was dry blood but now I noticed it on the inside. Could it be mites I will attach a pic tomorrow any ideas would be appreciated since he is like a pet thanks
