My rooster is 4 months old but very large. A few days ago he stopped eating and couldn’t stand up. I’ve been giving him fluids with a syringe but tonight, he feels extremely feverish. I brought him in the house to keep him cool.
any other ideas? I’m just hoping he makes it through the night so we can contact the vet.

Hi Molly,
I'm tagging some members who excel at treating sick fowl.
Is he your only chicken? Are there any other flock members that are showing symptoms?
Any facial swelling or sneezing?
Has he had unusual stools? (Green, yellow, runny etc.)
What type of feed does he eat? Has he had access to fresh water at all times?
Is the temperature in your area very hot?

How do you know that he has a fever? What was his temperature? A chickens normal body temperature is usually between 104F to 106F.

I took him to the vet this morning but he passed while there.
When I hot home I went to Tractor Supply to get worming meds and some other items for the rest of the group.
the lady at check out said he was a Cornish Hen. She saw his picture and said without a doubt she feels that he had just gotten too big and he wasn’t meant to live so long.
I am treating the others just in case.
we completely cleaned everything and even turned over the soil to be sure hi poop was well observed.
I had taken him inside my house last night because he was burning up. I turned on the AC to help him cool down and make it easier to breathe. Poor guy! But, as my husband said… he’s never seen anyone baby a rooster like that before.
I just feel that if you have pets you have an obligation to do what’s within your power to keep them healthy.
RIP Big Ben

Ah ok. He most likely died from a heart attack as he’s a Cornish cross (meat bird) bred to grow and gain weight faster. They are normally butchered around 9-11 weeks. I’m so very sorry for your loss. He knew that you loved him and tried to save him.
