Hello,
I have a question that I am hoping to get some feedback on. I have a 3 year black Jersey giant rooster. A few weeks ago I noticed he had a patch of bright red on his chest and his bum area. I checked my hens and they did not have this. One of my other roosters did though. Reading some stuff online I thought maybe he had mites so I thoroughly cleaned their coup, put diatomaceous earth and 7 bug power down. Additionally I put diatomaceous earth on each bird and sprayed the two roosters with bug be gone from tractor supply. However, now, weeks have gone by and his areas are still bright red. Once again, I checked my other birds and the hens all appear fine.
Does anyone have any thoughts or have experienced this? I thought maybe it was from him mating the hens often, but I just want to be sure. I have attached a picture, although he wasnt being super cooperative. I greatly appreciate it!

It may just be from some feather picking by the hens. I would not treat for mites or lice unless you see them on the birds or in the coop. One type of mite only comes on chickens at night, so looking then with a flashlight or torch would be good. Their skin under the vent, abdomen, and under wings are where to look for mites, droppings, or lice and eggs. DE is not very effective for an outbreak. Permethrin is very good. In the 2 links below, you can see pictures of what to look for:
