Rooster has stopped crowing and very weak

Unfortunately, if you have Mareks in your flock, that is a good possibility. Since there was blood in the dropping, I would get some Corid to put in his water for 5-7 days. But if he won’t take enough water, you will want to give him a concentrated oral drench daily. Later, after a few more days, I would think about worming him with Valbazen 3/4 tsp once and agian in 10 days. I would keep him propped up or in a chicken sling, so that food and water can be placed right in front of him. Slings are good to get them up, but they need to get out of them to stretch and sleep every few hours. If you lose him, I would save his refrigerated body, contact your state vet to get a necropsy to look for a diagnosis. Here is a good link for state vets:

I've mad a sling before out of an old tshirt, might try that again.

You think it might be coccidiosis then @Eggcessive ? I cant find Corid anywhere around here, you would thinking living in Montana there would be more stuff... I can get it from amazon by saturday but I dont know if that would be too late though?

Hey @Eggcessive and @Hen Pen Jem , no he wasnt vaccinated for Mareks because I hadnt even heard of that when he hatched :( I lost a couple of his siblings to it last year, I was really hoping I was in the clear cause I read somewhere that they usually dont get it after a year old.
I havent noticed any breathing problems or any bad smells but I will look around a bit more in a bit.

I got him in a crate out in the coup before I had to leave earlier with some nutridrench in his water and it looks like he pooped while I was gone, looks kinda undigested and I think thats a spot of blood

While it is possible for a chicken of any age to get coccidiosis, that blood tinge could be something else too.

I have seen that before in chickens with internal injury, also in chickens that had an impacted crop which finally cleared. However, it can be a nutritional issue too.

If you could get a fecal float test done, that would confirm or exclude, parasites, including coccidiosis. Another option to treating coccidiosis is, to treat with Albon oral suspension. The Albon would treat any coccidiosis, and/or, many intestinal infections. However, Albon requires a prescription here in California, and maybe where you live too.

If he has some internal injury, he really needs some iron, and vitamin B12, as he may be anemic.

If a visit to a vet is not an option, it would be best to do a comprehensive treatment, since you are really guessing at what could be the problem. A vet could run a CBC, which would tell you if he had an infection of some sort, it would even confirm possible internal injury. Together with a fecal float test, treatment would be more exact.

If he has Marek's, the disease may take his life, or he may survive. All you could do is provide supportive care. He should be kept in a temp. of 75-80 degrees F.

If you could find a vet to do a fecal test, then if he does have coccidiosis, they would prescribe Corid or a sulfa antibiotic (suladimethoxine, SMZ-TMP, or Albon.) They could rule it out and rule out capillary worms which sometimes cause blood. Enteritis may as well, and the vet possibly could do a gram stain. If that is not possible, you may want to get Corid instead online. People use it on cattle and other livestock, so a farm store may sell it.

Hi everyone, when I got home last night he was very weak and lethargic but after sleeping on me for a couple of hours and I didnt think he was going to make it but then after eating and drinking for a while he perked back up

So I took him to the vet this morning and they found his whole lower abdomen was very irritated and swolen, they did a fecal test and found no signs of any parasites, the vet said she thought it was likely Mareks, I guess I cant rule out infections for sure so antibiotics might have been worth a try, but he was suffering and very sick so I decided to have him put down. I didnt have him sent off to a lab though sorry, I brought him home and buried him, this was really saddening to me I had hand raised him in my bedroom, she said he was the sweetest rooster she had every seen <3

I just wish I had known what Mareks was a year ago, thanks for the help everyone
