Rooster has to go...

I need to make cuts in my herd,..I have 9 roosters(most babies). I used to love roosters, but now, I have had my belly full. I have been flogged too many times and watched how my hens can be attacked by their "protector". The worst part is that rehomeing them is nearly impossible, not unless they go to the freezer. This is the worst part of raising chickens for me,..too soft hearted I guess.

Yeah I am too soft hearted as well....I will be keeping him seperated but at night I am gonna let him out to free range with the gals before heading in for the night..maybe he will learn to be nice!

Good luck with that! I have been doing the same with my 14 month old PR for about 3 months JUST to keep him from the girls. It hasn't worked sad to say. When I turn him out real late in the evening, all he does is chase the hens and turns into a total brut. I can honestly say I HATE that rooster and yes he hates me,...I am a very soft-hearted person, BUT if he keeps coming after me and sneaking up on me and floggin me,..he is going to the crockpot! That is why the other 8 roosters are going somewhere else. I just don't like roosters.

HAHA Good luck.

Something else I read on here awhile back was to hold the unruly rooster upside down in front of the rest of the chickens. This sort of embarresses him. I have no idea if this works. I have never tried it but maybe it gives another method as well. And if it works, even better...LOL

I have a rooster problem also..it's an EE rooster. He follows me around constantly and has jumped up on my head a couple of times and pecked me on the top of my head and pecked my hair clips. Believe it or not, I love this rooster, but I hate his bad behavior. I separated him from the hens and the other rooster (he was about to kill my Light Brahma rooster) and he is now alone with one hen, a BO, and she is rather flighty, but he is not mean to her. As soon as I go in my house, and he sees the door shut, I watch him from behind a curtain. He turns around and goes to a large fenced garden area and flies over the gate and starts to eat grass. If I am outside, he is right beside, or behind me. I pick him up, pet him and watch him fall asleep, but when I put him down - here he comes. He will sometimes peck my leg or hand when I stop to do something - as if to say - PICK ME UP RIGHT NOW!!! I thought at first that he was turning into an aggressive, mean rooster, but I'm beginning to think he just wants attention. It breaks my heart to watch him want back in the area with the other chickens, but he causes a lot of chaos when in with the others. I can not give him away, kill him, cook him, etc. I will just deal with him and put out the extra expense to partition him off a little run just big enough for him and the BO. It makes a lot of extra work for me not to let him in with the other chickens, but that's just how it's going to be for now.

I am just making my hubby and brother in law deal with my Rooster problem. They promised gentle and quick. The Roosters leave and go to my brothers house and my husband will come back and tell me he went to the grocery and bought a bunch of chicken on sale. My only job is to fool myself into believing him.
