This is my first post so bear with me.

I have a Blue Cochin rooster who is free range. I do not know how old he is because I bought him from a poultry sale in April of this year. He has been the picture of health up until a few weeks ago. He crows a lot so we noticed it when his voice started to sound weird. It sounds like his voice is giving out at the end of his crow. He gets winded much easier. His breathing after a little excersise sounds terrible. I just had a Spangled Bantam rooster get over a case of ricketts which meant that I had to nurse him back to health. Believe me, I do not want to do that again! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Are you sure something is actually wrong with his breathing? Cochin roosters in my experience have a really wierd sounding crow. It is low and sound like they are weezing. I have a cochin rooster named George and he has always crowed like that. None of my chickens have ever had ricketts so, I figured it is just a characteristic of the breed. If in doubt I would take him to a vet. Good luck!!!

Idk if I can help but all my roosters have a hoarse sounding crow. They all appear healthy otherwise. I had just cleaned out the coop prior to this so I think it is a irritation of the new bedding. I could b wrong and could b illness, but I hope not. Good luck!
