And probably a different type of rooster help then most folks need.

We have 4 Dominique girls, 1 chicken mutt girl, and 4 new EE babies -- we really want a rooster. Preferably a Dominique rooster. We got our Dominique girls from a lady downstate but I can't find any of her info or her e-mail address to contact her about getting a rooster.

Looking at our local craiglist and Uncle Henry's I don't see anyone with Dominique for sale -- so how do I go about finding a Domnique roo for our flock?

If all else fails I will order a mixed run of Dominique chicks for next year -- but I would rather not get our Domniques from McMurray's.

I would post on the thread for your state on this site and ask. Also...you can change your signature to state that you are looking for one in your area. That way every time you post on something you will be putting it out there.

You can go to the Heritage Large Fowl thread and ask there - there are many there that may have an idea of someone to contact.

Other options are to talk to people from poultry organizations - many times they know of someone, members, etc. that may be able to fill your needs:

American Livestock Breeds Conservancy http://www.albc-usa.org/breeddir/search.php
Standard Bred Poultry http://www.standardbreedpoultry.com/for_sale/Dominique/Dominique/Large Fowl Chicken
Dominique Club of America http://www.dominiqueclub.org/
Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities http://sppa.webs.com/
Heritage Poultry Breeders Association http://www.hpbaa.com/

There are certain situations that can change a formerly docile rooster's behavior later in life, as I've had happen to me on one occasion. It broke my heart and he couldn't live here anymore because it was me he was having issues with, not my DH, and on this uneven, rocky and root-ridden mountain ground, I couldn't risk falling again after badly breaking my ankle. We tried and tried, but it was no use-we couldn't "change him back" to his former self. He was over 1 1/2 years old when he began aggression toward me. Before that period that changed him, he was super friendly and good-natured, best rooster you could have asked for. It happens.
