Rooster Help!

Of course, this comes with the risk of not having a rooster to protect your flock.
Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Roosters are simply a sacrifice to predators here, IF they even go after a TRUE threat. Many will run and hide. But they are no match for a fox, coyote, bear, and many others.

I would be more focused on protecting my kids, their vision, and their future lives. :thumbsup

We are located in lower Connecticut.
Get rid of current rooster and if still needing a better bird, then get an adult from someone in your area that has vetted them. Before getting new rooster, work on making so the wee kids are not around them as much. My kids, and I, grew up around roosters and it is the parent that must ensure the arrangement does not impose too much risk on kids.

Thank you! We will re home him. We are perfectly fine with our other 9 sweet hens. Being we only let them out when we are with them we aren’t really interested or in need of another bird to protect them. Getting a rooster wasn’t part of the plan he was supposed to be a girl!

I hope you are sending him elsewhere with full disclosure! He needs to be dinner somewhere soon.
Lovely roosters are out there, who never think of attacking humans. In the future one will work out for you, especially when your children are older.
