I have a 5 week Barred Cochin I’m not sure of. It’s definitely the top of the pecking order so far, and by far the largest. I’m just not sure if it’s a young rooster, or a more aggressive hen. It is the only Barred Cochin I have, so I don’t have anything to compare it too. Help?

He looks white and grey, rather than black and white. A lot of white barring means that the bird has two copies of the barring gene. Only males can carry two copies of the barring gene. Ergo, that is a male.

The red wattles cinch it.

Cute boy. Is he standard sized?

He is standard size. I was afraid it was a rooster, just hoping it wasn’t.
