1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)

Welsummer hen. One year old.
I have a mixed flock, so no other Welsummers to compare weight wise. But she seems normal?

2) What is the behavior, exactly.

Limping. Favoring left leg.
Otherwise, no symptoms. She eats and drinks. Cleans herself. She has normal poop. She is alert. Curious. Tail up, eyes wide. She CAN stand. But she cannot walk right.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?

A few days.

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?

No.

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.

I felt for brokenness. No swelling or anything obvious other than her limping.

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

My daughter said she saw our rooster mating with her (she is one of his favorites) and the hen started limping right after that.

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.

She has been eating and drinking normally and having normal poops. (They get chick starter, grit, oyster shells, sunflower seeds, and kitchen scraps. Plus plain water.)

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.

Normal looking poop.

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?

She had half a baby aspirin yesterday which didn’t make a huge difference. We have been trying to keep her away from the rooster. (The hens don’t pick on her). She has been sleeping in a nest box. I moved her to a crate inside tonight because her crop felt soft and I was worried she hadn’t eaten enough today. She is eating, drinking, and pooping in the crate. She is also cleaning herself.

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

I want to help her get better. My concern is that separating her from the flock will make her lose her spot. (She is a top hen). Is there anything else I can do for her? How can I help her keep her spot in the flock?

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

Will try to post.

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use

Currently in a crate with puppy pads lining the bottom. Usually in the garage with a thick layer of pine bedding.

I would separate out the rooster and see if she improves over the coming week, or two. If it continues or worsens than you know it may be something else.

I was thinking I will let her sleep in here tonight for closer observation. Then in the morning, my yard is set up in such a way that I can put a few hens in the main yard where the others (including the rooster) can still see them but not get to them. The challenge is the next boxes and the fact that it keeps raining. But I will figure something out.
