Rooster in the Hen House...Yay or Nay?

we aren't sure what breed he is. We picked him out of the bin at meyers hatchery..., isn't it? His name is Kramer lol as in cosmo. Thanks to y'all he will live a long and happy life!

I have several Roos with our hens, I keep them as long as they get along. I also love the crowing, very cute and unusual.
I say keep him unless he becomes a problem.

By the way, and I thought I posted this last night, but I guess I didnt, If anyone can identify what breed he is by the pic, they will get a gold star!

need a better picture of the bird to tell what he is.

You also asked about pulling tail feathers.

They may, but usually feather loss is on the back where the rooster stands on the hen. They tend to have "favorite" hens that can look a little worse for wear. There are some talented folks on here that make and sell aprons to put on the hens to protect their backs.

I'd give the roo a chance (as long as you double check ordinances in your area to make sure they're not banned).

I've yet to see a blood spot in any of my eggs, and I know they're fertile cause they produced over 30 chicks for me this fall).

thanks sillychicken! I appreciate the info. Ill try to get a better pic of "kramer" but they move fast and its hard to get a good one..thanks again!

Some info on eggs in the store:

eggs that say"cage free" or "free range" will have a"U" stamped on the carton somewhere on the top under the eggs peep hole. This 'u' means that they are Kosher which means infertle.

just some egg news.

ok stupid question im sure... BUT

how do you know if an egg is fertilised ( other than hatching it out). I hatched out quite a few eggs and Ive now got 12 chickens 2 of which Im sure are roosters but havent crowed as yet. Ive only had one egg.

I GOT MY FIRST EGG TODAY

obviously its not going to be soon but how would i know if they were fertile.. If I use chicken math Ive got room for a few more.
