Rooster...in the...nesting box!?!?!?!

My Silkie roo goes into at least one of the nesting boxes everyday and he has done that since before the girls started laying. I think your roo is acting normal.

I have a Ameracauna rooster, I've only had him a few weeks and five hens. I realize that is not enough for him but I sort of rescued him, will be getting more chicks. Anyway he does get in the nest box when one of my hens is trying to lay and I really do think he's trying to help like you say but he takes it to the extreem that he won't give the hen a chance to settle down and she will leave without laying. He really is such a good rooster, only a year old and very kind to his girls what can I do about this behavior?

Yes I know how old this thread is but for anybody who wants an answer its because he is showing the hens a place to nest although my rooster chooses to sleep in a nest box at night once in a blue moon.

Yea, I know this is an old thread but I have a question:

I have a mixed bantam roo (Sergent Pepper), 6months or so, he crows, cackles, is he nicest chicken out of my other 4 hen and pullets and he calls them to food, cuddles with them on the roost when it's cold and is an all around nice boy.

So he came with two mixed banty pullets(Oreo and Hedwig), they have Silver Sebright and Old English Game and they have puff cheeks so I think an colored laying breed.

Well they aren't laying yet, but we are getting a warm stretch, and the roo makes cackling noises and leads them into nest boxes and other places he makes 'wallows' at in the coop (corners and more lol). They follow him and watch him throw shavingings over himself and make a nest ect.
Does this mean they are getting ready to lay? Like how soon??

Also, while were on the subject:

I got a buff bramha(Bramha Momma) and a mixed large bantam(Jinx), Jinx has been here 2-3 weeks and Bramha Momma and the other bantams 1-2wks.

Well Jinx and Bramha are doing the submisive squat for me. The lady said Jinx started laying but then stopped 'cause of the cold snap we *had* and Bramha is older then a year. Does this mean they are settling in and might start laying again within a week or two? I haven't caught them in the nestboxes....yet

Well first of all your roosters behavior is what I would expect for an older cock but yes at 6 months they should lay already or soon. As for the Brahma I don't know I had a buff cochin that did not lay after a year old but we kept her around just the same but my brahmas are 5,3,1 years old the oldest one does not lay the 2 3year olds they lay eggs but they eat their eggs until today I build a nest box that would keep the eggs safe and my 1 year olds are great layers so I don't know if she will lay anytime soon.

My large cochin roster like to set with his hen while she is laying it t make sure she is ok ad that egg is fine. check it out then rolls it over to me to get, like fine job she done. Speck is my main man rooster.

I have a golden comet rooster and I have noticed him hanging out by the little duck pen the last few days(for some reason that's where she wants to lay her egg) while one if my white bantam hens was laying her egg, like he is her coach ( you can hear him clucking to her like hes trying to help her get thru it) and her look out to make sure no one will mess with her
