I noticed about an hour ago my roo George is limping and about 10 min ago i noticed his tail feathers are down. When he stands he keeps his foot up. I tried to get a good look at the foot and it does not seem to be hurt in any way. I don't think he was hit by a hawk or anything because I found no feathers. And the bad thing is I really don't think he will let us handle him, he is young and can be a little aggressive more so with the hens. Any suggestions?

When you need to care for a rooster or a flighty chicken, it is best to wait until nighttime, when they are asleep on the roost. You can then grab them and examine them, and perhaps place them in a cage with food and water. I would force him to rest his sore leg for a week, and then reexamine it to see if it needs another week of rest. Look the leg over for any bruising or swelling, especially around the joints. Put some vitamins in the water, especially B complex. It may help with his aggression, to separate him from the hens for a bit. Of course, if their are other roosters in the flock, it might be better to cage him in the coop, so that he remains apart of the flock. Once removed from the flock, other roosters may try to attack him when he returns.
