I have a very protective rooster who takes very good care of his 4 girls. He’s big and has torn the feathers off the shoulders of 3 of my girls. I tried the aprons but they all were terrified and shook them off almost immediately The aprons don’t seem very secure anyway. I know I can separate the hens from Star but that would be terribly upsetting to him and the hens rely on him for guidance. They all free range for several hours every day and then are in their coop/ enclosed turnout for the rest of the time. They have lots of room. Any suggestions?

I am gonna try and create a saddle that wraps around there neck, and then there belly. This will stay on and keep it from digging into there wings and hurting them! I don't know how long it will take though, but it wouldn't be hard of you to make something thing like that!

what breed(s) do you have? And what ages?

I've got a ratio of just 1:5 and my rooster has never hurt my girls or made them lose even a feather. And he has big hairy feet with huuuuge spurs.

My rooster is a barred rock- beautiful. The hens are a mix

Good idea, thanks. I just don’t want anything rubbing on them or restricting their movement

More hens might be a good idea and the there is the issue of introducing them to my rooster and current girls
