Rooster keeps pecking me.

I'm having a problem with my 22week old BO also. He used to be so sweet would hop on my lap and take a nap. Now he has started doing his dance at me, running up behind me he has bitten me good several times, it broke my heart cuz he was my buddy. I started stomping my foot at him and loudly saying no which has helped but I'm hoping he will get over this and be my buddy again.

@snyderba3 I wouldn't suggest stopping your foot (personal experience) they see it as a threat and want to threaten you back. Your boy is just going through the teen phase. Carry a stick and move him away from you when he's fiesty. You can still sped time with your pal. He's in there the hormones are just in charge and it'll be even better for him if you do still have that bond.

You dont want him to be your buddy. You want him to know you're the boss. Dont let him jump on you, even just your lap. Make him move when you walk, dont walk around him. Carry a stick if you need to. Also, dont stomp your foot. Make yourself bigger with your arms open. Chase him. Show him you're boss. You need to treat roosters differently than hens. They are not to be cuddled, they are there to protect the girls.

I had heard that BOs were the most docile. I got three straight run that all ended up being boys. (I am NEVER getting straight run again! I think it's code for "it's a boy" or "we're not sure it's a girl.") Two of them had to be culled as they became very aggressive toward me and the pullets. The remaining cockerel is good with the girls, but every now and then I have to remind him that I am the boss.

I would have liked him to be a buddy, but I know now that that won't work. So I am content with him doing his job and respecting me.

I Never Ever, coddle, hold or handle my rooster unless i am cheking him over for mites or trimming his spurs. And those things i do at night with a flashlight.
Your rooster needs to know you are boss and to be feared.
If he does not have fear of you, he will likely challenge you.
The best roosters i have had have been raised hands off.

Sorry but I sot of disagree. My roosters know I'm the boss but we still have a bond. I'm in charge and still respect him for everything he does. We both take care of the girls and they respect that.
