Update. We had to put down the hen that laid the two eggs. She had an impacted crop and was literally starving herself. The vet said that because of her size and plumage, it was hard to notice. Also, without going into a lot of detail, the vet said that she, as well as most of my other ones in that breed, seem to have some structural problems with there crop. So, beside trying to get ahold of them in the morning before they eat to feel of their crop, I watch to see if they open their mouths and stretch out their neck as this indicates problems with emptying their crop.
As I think about my rooster, King Solomon, I know it sounds funny, but I think that he was preparing a place for her to lay her egg. Whether or not it is what was happening, it is a nice thought that he was trying to take care of her since she could not get in the nesting boxes.
