I know the question has probley been asked a million times but, I can not find it. So here goes.......

Do rooster's molt? If so for how long? I have a sizzle roo and a silkie roo that are losing there feather's. That poor sizzle roo is looking pretty bad. He is beginning to look like a naked neck

His wings are just about bare, and under his belly on his breast bone is red and just seems aggravated. The silkie is not as bad, but he is getting there. Here is the kicker..... they are in a pen with 6 hens...... none of my hens are messing feather's. They are all beautiful and full of them selves!! There tail feather's look like cotton balls they are so full and so are the top knots. Any ideas what could be going on with the boy's?

I will try and get pics today.

ETA: I left out the most important part...... I have done all the checking on them..... no mites or pest of any kind. They are eating and pooping just like they alway's do. Acting very normal. Just loosing feather's.

My roo is going through molt right now, too. It's been a weird spring for weather around here, maybe that has something to do with it. My hens usually molt in the fall.

He is starting to come back from the ugly "picked on" stage. He still has some small feathers in his neck to fill in, but his tail looks much better.

Poor guy looked rather pitiful there for awhile.

Well that makes me feel a little better. This has been going on with my boy's for about 2 months.

Our roo had a really hard molt this year too, it started in about March and he is just starting to get some new feathers in. Our girls molted late summer/early fall last year and it wasn't as severe. Oh, this is also his first molt.

You guy's are the bomb..... I feel better now!! How long do you think this molt will last? This is there first molt. Is the first molt alway's this bad?

I know our roo's molt has lasted a couple of months. I don't know if the first is always severe but I know his was. I am sure your boys will be fine and hopefully they will start looking better soon. I think the worst part was seeing our roo's pretty cycle feathers on the ground
