I have three roosters. The oldest, and until recently, the "top roo", is my almost 2 year old silkie named Roovie. He is (was) meaner than mean. I took to wearing boots when I went in the run because he would always attack my feet, mostly as I was leaving. My second oldest is a blue silkie named Lavy who has a tiny black silkie girlfriend he hangs out with. He is about 1 yr old and he is very sweet and a bit goofy. He is easily spooked and will jump straight up in the air and then run for cover. My youngest is Tuly, he is the son of Roovie and his girlfriend Daisy. Tuly was hatched on July 9 last year, and is my very sweet boy.

Roovie has never paid any mind to the other roosters. He has never had to, he was the KING of the chickens. I have 9 hens and he got with at least 4 that I have seen. But the last few days I have noticed that, where he used to be the first one out of the coop in the morning, he is now the last one out, with his girl Daisy. He used to "stalk" me around the yard when I tossed the scratch and then charge after me as I started to leave. Now, he runs to the back of the yard with Daisy, away from the other chickens (and me). He is also crowing less. It isn't obvious (to me) which of the other two roo's has taken his place. Lavy is such a dork and I haven't seen him successfully mount any hens (he is very clumsy), but he sure tries to impress them. Tuly is definitely the studly teen right now. He jumps onto anything high he can find and crows all day, dancing for the girls when he can. I have seen Lavy chasing Tuly but there has never been any fighting. The hens don't seem to think much of any of the roosters. In fact, there are at least 3 hens that think I am their rooster. I am just confused about this. He isn't acting sick, but he sure isn't acting normal. Is it possible the evil Roovie has been brought down? Is it possible the nice roosters have taken over? Any ideas about what is going on here?

Even if there seems to be no indication of illness in him, drastic behavioral changes like this indicates that he could still be sick. Chickens are prey animals, and are therefore very good at hiding pain and illness. I'd just keep an eye on him for awhile.

I checked him out, his eyes/nose are clear. His comb/waddles look fine, I don't see any injuries. He seems fine. Lavy is definitely king of the roosters, though. I was giving them all a treat and Roovie got too close to the food and Lavy chased him off. I guess I will just wait and see how long his status holds. I actually feel sorry for Roovie

The top bird can and sometimes does change.

Most of my roosters are in a bachelor pad of nothing but boys. There are times that it absolutely confounds me as to who is the King Bird because it seems just as I settle on one then another one jumps him and he runs. Yet there isn't a lot of fighting in the pen.

For quite a while the top spot was held by my oldest White Leghorn until I came home one day to find him with his comb bloody and he was hiding under the roost house. I watched him for a while and finally settled on an F2 red sex link boy as the new boss only to see him be jumped and put to flight by an EE roo. Who was himself jumped by someone else.

Just at the moment I have no idea who the boss is out there, but they all know. About the time I get it all sussed out it'll change again as the younger boys mature.

I am 99% sure he has been exiled to the very bottom rank. Why, I have no idea. He is eating and acting normal, just doing it as far away from the rest of the hens and roosters as he can. He avoids everybody but his girl Daisy, who faithfully stays by his side

Lavy is definitely the top roo, which is completely amazing to me, since he has always been afraid of a leaf dropping. Amazing little creatures, our chickens
