We have an adopted rooster and today suddenly he has lost his voice/crow. We noticed he sounded raspy this morning, tonight he can not crow, and when he tries he sounds like a squeeky mouse. He also sounds like he is breathing hard, almost like you can hear him breathing in and out when he gets worked up, for example he get's worked up from us going in the coop at night to check on things. Anyways, I've read this might be a respiratory infection? She we separate him from our girls? He really is a neighbors rooster who will not go back home, so the only other place for him is outside and it is dark out already, but we don't want our girls getting sick either, and we have our chicks in a temp pen in the coop as well. I've also read that some peoples roosters just do this from time to time, so is there a way to tell for sure?
