We have an adopted rooster and today suddenly he has lost his voice/crow. We noticed he sounded raspy this morning, tonight he can not crow, and when he tries he sounds like a squeeky mouse. He also sounds like he is breathing hard, almost like you can hear him breathing in and out when he gets worked up, for example he get's worked up from us going in the coop at night to check on things. Anyways, I've read this might be a respiratory infection? She we separate him from our girls? He really is a neighbors rooster who will not go back home, so the only other place for him is outside and it is dark out already, but we don't want our girls getting sick either, and we have our chicks in a temp pen in the coop as well. I've also read that some peoples roosters just do this from time to time, so is there a way to tell for sure?

Give him Sulmet , i had that happen to my Brown leghorn roo, i gave him sulmet and he got better after a couple of days, but separate him from the flock till he gets better

What will the Sulmet do/be treating? I don't really have a way to seperate him from the rest of the flock right now, so if I treat him and there is no way to give him indivdual treatments, then I I have treat all of my adult hens. I really don't want to do that since I don't want to have to withhold eggs.

Does anyone know if it possible to treat the rooster individually without having to separate him from the flock? I know my local feed store has Duramycin, would this work, and is there a way to give a dose individually or am I stuck treating them all? I will do what I have to do, but he is still having a hard time breathing, I don't think his comb is looking so well today.

Just bumping my thread hoping someone might be able to give me advice about Duramycin, I picked some up today but would like to treat him individually. Also at my local feed store they had Terramycin tablets, but wasn't sure about the dosage for that and it was much more expensive.

Thought I would also mention that the rooster does not appear to have any discharge coming from his nasal area, so I'm not even sure if it is a respiratory infection. He can't crow, and seems to be having a hard time breathing, it seemed to happen suddenly over a 24 hour period, is there any way this could be gapeworm? He seemed fine before this. I feel so bad for the poor guy and I don't know what to do!
