Rooster making puppy noises/sneezing noises?

My dad went out there to look at the chickens, and the rooster got all puffed up and "supposedly" (NEVER gets angry with me) trying to attack him. He said he almost killed him (made me mad), and when I went out there - he was making these sneezing/puppy noises like every 5 seconds or 10 seconds. Will he be O.K?
