rooster maturity

I give them a good petting and talk to them instead! I am soon to get a rooster (next weekend) so I guess their friendly gestures to me will soon end?

No, it won't.

By petting them you have essential done the deed. It is the stimulation on the back that is recognized as the breeding by the roo.

Oh good....I was worried about adding a rooster. I am told he is friendly and very good with the ladies. I hope I don't regret it. My 6 girls are very friendly and love to be paid attention to. I don't want a roo that will try to chase us away!

Yeah, what Miss Prissy said.

sunnydee, when you get your new roo be sure and quarantine him first. It'd be a tragedy to lose your girls from something a new chicken brought in.
