Rooster Misbehavin

Good mornin y'all!! Just let my chickens out and my usually oh so sweet cuddly Clyde (buff orp roo 20 weeks old doesn't crow yet) comes right over to me while I was talking to them and pecks the CRAP out of my ankle!! What the heck?! I know that some roosters are pretty hateful but this one has always been ultra docile and loves attention. Very handled and brought indoors frequently as well.
We did have two other roosters and they tormented him. I got rid of them as fast as I could. Had to even keep them separated.

What do you think?
Is this the beginning of the end for Clyde?
Will Bonnie ever forgive me if he goes away?
(Bonnie is his girlfriend)
Is there a way to correct this behavior?

Oh sigh.....romance meets reality once again.

He's coming into full sexual maturity and is making a move to dominate you, regardless (or because) of all the previous cuddling.
Male livestock can be dangerous, even chickens.
I would not keep a cockerel around my small child, I value their eyes too much to risk them.
BTW hens should also be kept away from everyone's eyes, chicken don't need kissing but shiny things need pecking - don't you know.

Bonnie will be fine, might even enjoy being in a girls only flock.
If you don't need cockerel for reproduction of flock (or even if you do) get rid of him.
You can always buy fertilized eggs for hatching, but there will be males there too, so plan how to manage them.

Chicken math is always seen as 'addition'...but also should include Division, Multiplication and especially Subtraction.

Try holding him in your arms without letting him move for 10-15 minutes every day. Pretty much show him who's boss. =)

I'm going to see how he does in the next little while. He's not needed for anything really I just like him. I won't be able to kill him or give him to someone to eat (yes I know if someone buys him they may eat him but I don't need to know!) but I am definitely up for rehoming if he doesn't back down some. I have tried to assure him of my dominance. I swatted his butt when he did it. I've seen them(chickens) do it to the less dominant hens. Maybe it's crazy! Maybe it will keep Clyde around for a long time we shall see

Great idea!! I had swatted his booty right after he did it. I have seen the chickens do that to one another. Well.... Pecking eachothers butts but I'm not gettin my house that close to a vent! No way lol

haha I had to swat my rooster a few times when he was a baby(~4 1/2 months old) too. He pecked me several times but I'm not gonna sit there and take it -.- lol

This is the same thing I have done to naughty roosters and they stopped trying to mess with me real quick. Got my younger daughter to do the same. Now, my SLW only goes after my husband. He won't listen to me about holding him. It works though!

I won't either!! He hasn't tried anything since yesterday and I sat and held him still last night too. I really don't want to get rid if him. The last two roosters I got rid of were jerks anyways so it wasn't a big deal. Thanks for the help!!
