I merely expect my roosters to move out of my way when we cross paths. I have only had one seriously aggressive rooster in my life and he was delicious. I think most folks that have aggressive roosters fool with them too much and they are comfortable being in very close proximity. I see no reaspon to boot a rooster off a hen

If I dont see a rooster mate in front of me, I am going to assume he is not doing his job that he is there for and I am going to find one who will. Thats HIS job and he better be doing it whenever he needs to. If I see a male who is not actively trying to breed hens I am thinking his vigor is not that good and will either not get chicks from him or they wont be as strong as they would be from a more vigorous male.

Just dont see the point in stopping them, that is what they are there for. They dont have feelings, its not a dominance thing. Its a he better get the job done or he is gone thing......
Sorry I am old fashioned and have raised thousands of birds over the years and this seems nonsensical to me.

Some males fight simply because they want to. I have had some wonderful, playful males over the years and have had downright devils who would tag you anytime they could. I have been pecked by males alot more than I have ever been flogged. Those beaks can draw blood in a hurry....

My opinion continues to be that those roosters that folks try to turn into pets are the ones that have issues. I just dont have any trouble with only one exception. Find a rooster that is not a breeder if you want a pet and he turns bad take his head off, literally, and go find another, one day you will find that special bird that is OK with people annoying them on a regular basis. They need to have some respect for the person with the feed bucket, that is for sure.

When dealing with roosters, remember that you are dealing with a genuine Force of Nature.
He was not created, nor has he developed over thousands of years, with the sole intent of pleasing us.

This is the crux of all so-called "rooster problems."

I have a RIR rooster and he was low man during the summer and we had to get rid of 3 out of our 4 chicks we raised that turned into cockerels by fall. (Unlucky) and decided to pick between the two grown roosters so we picked this guy. His been good not very protective when it came to a few cats sleeping in the coop this winter but my dogs negotiated that. But I will often pick up the girl he is ready to mount just so he gets a reminder that even though he is the only rooster I am still more in charge. The girls sometimes I think like the saving cause he pulls their combs really hard sometimes.
