Our sweet boy went down very fast. Yesterday morning was weak but ate and moving around a bit. I knew something was off. Yesterday afternoon he was laying off by himself and I went to check on him and he was very weak. I picked up feathers to feel his skin to see if he was hot or cold and couldn't even see skin! Lice everywhere!. So I ran to the feed store and bought the lice dust and liquid. We "dipped" all the chickens making sure to get to skin. I didn't think he would make it through the night, we have him in a tote with heating pad , towels trying to keep him warm. I went back to feed store today cause he was still alive this morning to get something to get nutrition into him. They gave me nutri drench. Anything else i can do for my boy? Thanks

Poor guy. Sonds like you're on the right track. First step is to get rid of the lice, second is to keep him warm. Ideal temp for him right now is a room or cage that is no less that 80 degrees f. Next you will want to ge some fluids into him. Any chance of getting him to a vet?

I just can't help myself Kathy :lau (blasted auto typey thing!)

@kingchickies I'm sorry your rooster is not doing well.
I agree with @casportpony that you are on the right track. Fluids are important - the Poultry Nutri-Drench is good stuff - you can direct dose him at 1cc per 3lbs of weight or mix it with his water. After he is drinking offer him some food, chopped egg is usually well accepted.

I hope all goes well.

Thank you guys! I'm not seeing any more live lice on him. Trying to keep him warm. I mixed a gallon with the nutra drench and just gave him a second syringe full in his beak. He fought me a little this time and even tried to get on his feet! Here's to hoping! Fingers crossed!! We love this boy. Super sweet. O, his comb is a bit purple on the tips. Is that just because the shape he is in right now? He's a buff Orpington. Skin and bone right now poor guy

More than likely the color of the comb is because he's in bad shape. Once you get him stabilized and back on his feet - eating/drinking on his own. Consider having a fecal float to check for worms.

BO's are sweet birds, I hope he pulls through. Keep us posted.
He ate a bit of feed this morning. Still in the tote on heating pad. Not moving much but the nutra drench is helping!

I hope your rooster recovers fast. I'm new only have two one month old. The egg we had in the incubator never cracked, but it was a little chick inside all developed, don't know why it didn't make it. I had to purchase two little chicks that are now getting big and cute. Wow what a beautiful community this is, I never knew how many people can love their chicken so much. I'm so excited while I learn. I truly hope the best for your rooster.
