I am just starting my small flock , 14 ideally, and would like to get a rooster, as I have a bantam cochin pullet that I'm hoping will go broody next summer, as she's still young .
The three pullets I have so far are about 9-10 weeks old. Should I get a young rooster now so they can grow up together or get one when all are adult?

still debating on the breed. I saw some nice looking Americauna roos, have been handled alot, so are good with people, are they a good choice?

Best to wait now.If they all started together, it would have been fine, but at this point, you should wait. Then get a rooster that is older and mature in the spring. Have fun......Pop

Emjay what is your goal for breeding. Do you plan to sell offspring? If you do then go with a breed line do not mix. Mix chicks just do not sell as well as pure chicks. If you 14 are all bantams that is even more so. If you do not want more than 14 why even bother getting a roo for if you do you will soon be well over that number. I would wait and see let the excitment wear off a bit before making that choise.
