Does the comb have one row of bumps or three? Males usually have 3 rows. I don't see obvious saddle or hackle feathers yet but EEs are hard. My EE from Cackle had a very red comb at 8 weeks.

Oh no...I live in the city, so that won't do. I have a back up plan for him to live a happy rooster life on a friend's farm, but I'm going to be sad if I have to say goodbye. That looks like a 3 row comb to me... I would lean cockerel at this point...
The egg is small and a very very light brown, almost a dirty white. That hen is likely a mix. What color was her egg? With the crest I would think crossed with a crested or tufted breed like legbar or spitzhauben maybe a Polish... or perhaps a Swedish flower - ish.
It looks like a crested cream legbar, ISA brown, and an easter eggerHi everybody, I'm brand new to BYC and was just about to ask what breed my Karen is. She was sold to us as a Buff Orpington pullet 4 weeks ago and she layed her firs egg today. She looks quite a bit like yours!!
