I purchased a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte from a straight run bin (didn't notice that part!!!) and I am not sure what it is gender wise.I am a relatively newbie to chicks/chickens and I was wondering if you all have any input for me? here is its pic (it's the one on the right):

As you can see, its legs are pretty thick, the comb and waddles are getting red and it is only about 4 weeks old. I cannot have a rooster where I live, so it might be dinner if it is a he. If it is a she, I will be very, very happy!! What is your opinion or is it too hard to tell still?

thank you.

It is early, and don't make any quick decisions as to it's fate, but I am fairly sure that you have a cockerel.

Maybe he will be a quiet roo!

Oh Boy! I forgot to mention that it is the same age of the Rhode Island Red in the photo, but feathering out WAY slower than her. The feathers are coming in more now, but not on the tail really. The wings came in first and now the shoulders are developing their feathers. Is it true that roosters develop slower?

Also, he is DEATHLY afraid of me for some reason. The RIR allows me to catch her fairly easily and same with the younger PPR chicks I picked up last weekend. Are roosters more "wiley"?

Thank you for your predictions. I am afraid you might be right. :(
