Hello, new chicken owner here 👋🏼

I have a Eater Egger that’s roughly 8-9 weeks old. I am really hoping it’s not a roo because it just so happens to be my favorite 😢 But I’m second guessing it. This morning it perched itself onto their tree branch they have and did what I thought sounded like a crow! Someone please tell me it isn’t 😭 can’t keep it due to the rule in my neighborhood if it is a roo.

With those heavy legs, bright red comb, body shape, and upright posture you have a cockerel. The crowing at that age is another huge cockerel sign. Girls can make noises and even crow but that young it is not a good sign.

I just looked at another one and said probably a boy. With yours there is no "probably". It is a boy. Sorry.

Awh, I’m so sad 😭 thank you everyone for helping me figure out if it was a rooster. Time to find it a new home 🥲
