He’s definitely a cockerel. His comb is large for a pea comb

If it's doing proper crowing, you got your answer I know hens can start crowing, but it mostly only happens if there isn't a rooster in the flock and in my experience a hen can never crow as good as the roosters.

When this is said it is a cockerell, just haven't matured with all the male specific feathers yet.

2 months. Mixed breeds hatched.

Thanks for the pic. I want to say pullet. I'm disregarding the leg size because everything else says pullet to me. Although I could very well be wrong.

I've got a hen that crows just like rooster.

It looks like a pullet because of the single barring. But if that bird is 2 months old (8 weeks) that is definitely a cockerel, no doubt about it. If we were looking at a 4 month old bird there would still be hope for a pullet, but no way would a 2 month old pullet have that much red.

It's double barred, just Smudgey(Cuckoo).

Thank you for the clarification. I'm pretty solid on the genetics of barring, but I don't have a lot of first hand experience with it.
