. This barred rock is a little over 6 months old, no eggs layer. Lately the bird has been jumping on the other hens backs (only 3 others) but it's a new group of birds. Also on 1 occasion the bird cockadoded a few times in a row but has not done that again since that time a few days ago

Well that stinks! Any want a free rooster! I was told he was a she at 5 months old. Does anyone know when he will start to roo more so I know how much time till he has to go

It could be any day those little cocka doodle doo's will get louder right now he is practicing.

Probably very soon. My little 6 week old BR gurgled his first "non-peep" this morning. Sounded like a frog with laryngitis....or maybe he burped. Either way, your boy is going to be crowing before you know it. Nice looking bird. Shame to let them go.

In addition, he looks nothing like my BR rooster, yours has very dark feathering and the barring is very muted. He might be a mix of BR and Cuckoo Marans. We got three CM's by mistake, were represented as BRs. Decided to keep them since they are timid little things and haven't taken a chunk out of me when I pick them up for relocation. Only 20 more weeks for the first eggs. They better get to work pronto.

How can you tell it's a rooster, curious so I can learn how to identify?

Some people can tell by the legs and feet other from the wattles and combs. Usually by the comb though it grows faster then a pullet and it's more prominent.
