I think we are going to cook him up this weekend. He is a BIG boy. I can't take care of my hens and worry about him attacking me. Can I assume he has fertilized all 5 hens in 1 week?

If you're wanting fertile eggs, 5 days is a bit short for the trist, but it is likely he's covered them all. If you're concerned, give him another 4-5 days. I think I would give it a few more days, and kinda watch and see if he's getting them all. Just be wary when you go in and out of the coop. Maybe let the birds out so no one is in the coop when you go for eggs.

Finally, the question is this. Do you really want his DNA going forward? Chances are that he'll pass that trait forward and all you end up doing is making more just like him. I guess you'll have to think on that.

Hmm.. He's not so bad. Just exhibiting normal behavior for a rooster with a harem. Hoping the aggression increases my chances of getting fertile eggs. I have another rooster too. I could put on some protective clothing and try to swap him into the hen house. I think I may try that tomorrow. My 2 red hens are definitely laying fertile eggs, not sure about the others but I am done cracking them to check. I plan to collect eggs for a week to incubate. Don't plan on keeping too many chicks that end up as roosters.

I have somewhere between 7-15 Roos free ranging here (still culling) and not one has ever even given me the stink eye over the last two years. . They move when I walk by and that's the way I like it. I put it down to years of Belizeans not tolerating aggressive roosters before me creating a "good stock base".

A good fly swatter works well on an aggressive rooster. He is still young and if u can prove your dominance early he may change. A few good floggings with the swatter has worked for me in the past.

I read somewhere and i do just walk through them, make them get out of my way. I scoop up the roo and just hold him so he cant flog or get away and the hens can see him. You need to be dominant over him. Are both the roos the same breed, it may work to put them both in there so they dont worry about you? We used to have a roo that would go after my daughters, I would say just stand your ground. Then he did it to me and man, my heart was pounding. I went right back at him, chased him until I caught him and held him in shame over his girls. He didnt come after me ever again, but continued to scare my girls so he went bye bye.

Our roo "Max" has been aggressive also. My husband picked him up, turned him upside down, holding
on to his legs, the awfulist noise you ever heard, but it disgraced him enough that when we entered the run, he
would run. That was about 4 - 6 months ago. Now that spring is round the corner and the "sap is
rising" it may be time to hang upside down again, or Max and dumplings.

He charged at me while I was holding a rake up between us. I have to admit I am terrified of him. That is not making our situation any easier.
