rooster pinning down hen

My rooster is pinning my hen down by the neck. He also ran over and pecked the back of my leg this morning (hard enough to leave a mark). What could be going on? They are both
around 41/2 months old.

Sounds like he is going through adolescence. His hormones are kicking in and he is trying to mate with your hen and dominate you.
I hope you have more than one hen as he may damage her by overmating and will definitely stress her. If not, then you might need to consider separating them or getting more hens or probably the best option is to get rid of the rooster unless you have a specific reason for keeping him.

"My hen" makes it sound to me like you only have 1 hen - which is probably going to be a problem with a rooster. If you've got multiple, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The rooster coming over and pecking you though, that's a bad sign.
