rooster problem

Contrary to what everyone seems to say, mean roosters CAN be made into manageable roosters - it just takes a bit of effort. Of course, Rhode Island reds do have a tenancy to be more aggressive, but that just means that getting rid of him and getting a new rooster will probably NOT solve the problem. And come on: roosters are extremely fun to have around when you know how to manage them!

This may help: https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=63850-the-definite-guide-to-roosters (although I really have to update and clean it up one of these days).

I have....let's see.....NINE roosters right now (some of them are being sold for breeding), and all of them are super tame/nice (except for one lakenvelder who I don't work with much cause he's hilarious). ALL of them have the potential to be aggressive and probably would be with someone who didn't know how to handle them. Just culling a mean rooster seems like giving up to me.

Barred rocks also have a tenancy to be aggressive, but yours isn't. Why do you think that is? It may be just his personality, he may be a more stable rooster, or it may just be that you aren't scared of him. I dunno. Almost all of the barred rock roosters I've ever had have been or started to turn aggressive, but with a little work, respected me and even turned nice/tame.
