Rooster pulling feathers off of my hens, is this normal?

Oh I understand.
Mine was doing this too!
Tearing combs and being aggressive even with the hens squatting.
The little hen is a bared rock and she is 18 months so old enough.
He tore one of cinnamon reds combs so I put him in time out. I was hoping he would settle down a bit. So there is such a thing as a good rooster? One that doesn't pull feathers out and tear combs? I got rid of his dad for doing this.
There definitely is such a good thing as a good rooster! That behavior is not normal. The fact that his dad was aggressive isn't surprising. The aggression can be genetic. If I were you, I'd get rid of him.

Try looking for someone in your area that's selling a slightly older rooster that's known to be gentle with the hens. No younger than a year old. Maybe even a couple years old.

Thanks! We have him seperate right now. I was just coming on here to see what people have experienced. I never had a rooster for more then a year. One that attacked me I gave him 3 chances... then I was done- he was fine until about a year.
Honestly I never try to get roosters they just kinda show up 😄

I feel ya! Mine was also an accident. If you don't need one for breeding then even better. I went down to all female flock and they all seem happier. I'm definitely happier not having to watch my back for rooster attack every time I clean their coop!

Agree since he has been in his own area the girls do seem happier.
I did get 4 new hens raised with a rooster that do well with him.
When I free range it is nice having a rooster - this one was excellent at watching over them. He was a good watch dog. Well I still have him. I will give him one last chance.
He is young. So we shall see if he behaves.
