Rooster Question

How long does it take them? My one is not as hormonal as the other. I let one of the 8 week old girls jump out of the coop and he grabbed her and pinned her. I sure did stop that, there was no way I was going to allow it. I didn't even consider he would do that.

You have to decide what your willing to allow , try if you want to break him , but many cockerels are nice from the beginning

If he is pinning hen down and getting on top he already has learned, now he must learn how to respect and treat and that take them soem time, they usually calm down within age,by eight or seven months the whole grabbing and aggressive breeding should calm down. But can carry into adult hood and usually dies down as they age.My rooster on occasion will still chase a hen but it isn’t as often as he use to when he was a young boy(5 or six months). But now he wing dances and respectfully waits for them to squat. Most of his mating is just jumping on the backs and that’s what you will likely see as they get older older,it’s better then them

chasing each other.

There is no breaking an animal with a natural habit,he will most generally calm with the bum rushing of the hens and grabbing and pinning down.If I want you I would Seperate him till he matures and definitely keep young gals away from him.You don’t want him breeding a baby that young, she has no idea what happening and its traumatic for her.Young males don’t care who or what they breed sometimes,as long as it gives them what their looking for, they will take.
