Hi, I have my first rooster and just curious on a few things. He is 9 weeks and a Lavender Orp. When approx. do they attempt to crow? I work during the day but haven't heard anything yet. When they do crow is it all day or mostly morning? Thanks

Thanks! A 2 week old crowing sounds adorable.

It sounds like a teenage boy whose voice is breaking. More like a broken squawk. But it will eventually turn into a full blown beautiful crow. And it is fun to watch them try. ;)

My roosters usually crow early in the morning and late afternoon. Or any time they feel like it!

My Polish rooster is crowing at 10 weeks and the other two (Welsummer, Partridge) are not... He has (had) a crown of lovely head plumage and is very healthy, but every time our "Poli" crows the other two roosters attack him and pull out his head feathers... Wish I had a hat for him because he looks terrible now. The other roosters actually draw blood!! I try to keep the area on his head clean but he is taking a lot of heat. All three roos are 10 weeks old but most of the 25 hens seem to love Poli best! He is gentle and very protective and he responds well to both my hubby and me and even the grandkids! I am new to the Polish breed and roosters in general! Any suggestions?

Honestly? If the hens like that rooster and he is gorgeous, why keep the others. Especially if they are beating up on the good roo.

I have thought about separating them as well but the Welsummer and Patridge Rock are my hubby's! He ordered them with the 25 hens. Poli was an exotic mystery gift from the hatchery! He is lovely! He is jet black with the black and white head plumage! The other two will become multi-colored but boy are they aggressive, and one has already gone at my daughter!
