Rooster, S H U T U P

When we told the neighbors on one side that we had chicks in a brooder on our front porch, they told us they hoped one was a rooster...said they would love to hear it crow. Told them at that point none had appeared!

Well, there were no roosters but do have some loud mouths! One is a big ole BO named Petunia who screams. Today she was at it nearly the whole darn day! I have some who do the celebration cackle song when they see someone who is about to or have laid their egg or THINKS they are about to lay...I think she likes to hear her own voice!

Joe, this thread is hilarious. I had one of my 22 heritage RIR cockerels to start crowing this morning. He sounded like he was dying of strangulation. The DW says, "he sure is a noisy little fella". I said, "yep... 1 down 21 to go". One of my neighbors later called to see if my birds were OK. They thought something had gotten into the coop/run and were attacking them.

I will be keeping them until they are at least a year old. Then I will choose 6 for my breeding pens and backups. It may get a little noisy for awhile in the daytime. At night they will be locked into what will be a noise proof coop with forced ventilation.

In the You Tube link that you posted, how bout we keep the roo and get rid of the musician...lol.

i have a roo who is 19 wks old this friday, he doesnt crow yey! probably because everyday i look at him with a very stern look and say "boy, if i hear one peep from you...im going to skin you alive and EAT you !!!" works so far

My big rooster crows a lot, but I love hearing it! He always tells me good morning and calls for treats for the girls.
My little roo hasn't crowed yet, but he's being quiet, still pretending to be a pullet so he can stay. I haven't told him yet but if he gets along with Vern, he can stay as long as he likes. He is one pretty boy!
We live in a VERY rural area (only 6 houses within a 3 mile circle around my house) so only a couple of neighbors to hear the crowing. And some of them keep chickens with crowing roos too. There's one little bantam roo about a quarter of a mile away that is so noisy! His voice is very loud and high pitched, you can hear him from a mile away. He and Vern have long conversations every day. Hubby wants to give them cell phones so he doesn't have to hear it all day.

When we got our chickens this past spring we couldn't wait till the roos started crowing. The oldest roo is a BO we call TRex cause he runs around like the dinos on TV shows, crows like someone has him by the throat. But our RIR roo has a great crow I love to hear BUT NOT AT 4;30 AM!!! We are used to it now and don't wake to all natural alarm. We have 3 roos and it's one after another till around 8 am then off and on throughout the day. Wonder what it is gonna be like when the SS and CM roos in the brooder grow up?

Have a great roo that crows when I let them out at 6:30am, again at about 10am, at noon, about 2pm and 4pm, and again at about 6pm...3-6 crows per time. Never had a neighbor complain. I love the sound myself. Now in the spring I will have the roo, tom turkeys and peacocks...should be fun..lol.

crowing bothers you?? get this I have a little oegb splash roo - that if I go out the door no matter what time - it can be pitch black he will crow if he hears me.. but its a good thing I love hearing them crow..and by the way we have no neighbors to worry about
