Rooster seems to be pretty aggresive. He had one of the chickens by the back of the neck. Is this normal or do I have a rooster that needs to go to freezer camp?

Mrs. Green Thumbs :

Sounds like you got yourself a frisky roo....

I agree ..Its not nice to watch but its all part of the mating ritual

Mine is real sneaky one minute he is eating ..when a hen walks past unaware he grabs them by the neck and treads her ...

Well my alfonzo does that a lot... and lately my girls have started fighting... so one has feathers missing on her neck... and a few have before their tails bald... not very attractive... but anyways...

My question...

I am looking to get another Rooster... Alfonzo is brilliant... however he will even attack my leg if i scare his girls...

should I get another Rooster as I will be hatching and selling chicks... the first bathc is in the incubator and ny thinking is that people may eventually want to breed from their chicks like I have...

I am looking for a Cream Legbar Rooster so as to get pure CL chickens with little Beatrice... she lays every day and she is without doubt one of the funniest chicks in the pack...

Any tips?

I was wondering the same thing when mine started a few weeks ago, and that is what they do to mate. He does it all the time now! I feel sorry for the poor girls, doesn't look fun.
