Rooster sent to "Death Row" - now Coc au vin!

8#, sounds liked he was part turkey! Reply to big to use on smaller hens. Hope he tastes good.

My best roosters have all been gentlemen from the beginning, my current Basque roo does his hen dance for me as well. Very sweet.

I hope someone will video the "hen dance" because I've never seen it. Only the hen chase, which looks like an oversized sheep dog trying to corner a reluctant sheep, even spreading his wings out to try to block her escape from the corner. Five eggs again today, and my Wellsummers seem to be back in production!

Here's a good video showing it, skip to 00:55. He's not dancing to a hen, but its still the dance.

I have some roosters that need to go to the stew pot, but I haven't found the time to do so lately. I wish my roosters were 8 pounds after being cleaned!

Well, as a follow up. My rapist rooster is now resting peacefully in the refridgerator. I did the deed on Friday (yesterday). I confined him to solitary on Wednesday and was rewarded with five eggs on Thursday (haven't had more than 3 for weeks). He weighed in at 8 pounds, fully butchered! No wonder the poor girls didn't want to have him chasing them around! He was handsome though. Oh well. Rest in Peace Waldo, until tomorrow when you go in the crock pot anyway.
That's an impressive bird!

I'm having the same problem right now, my rooster is very aggressive and I would do the same thing. I'm planning on giving my rooster away.

Loved the video! If my rooster had behaved that way...doing such a fine dance for the ladies I probably wouldn't be able to (or need to) do the deed. That was so funny! Does he often dance for the dog? Anyway, this rooster is a Freedom Ranger. I had thought to keep one rooster and two pullets from my 35 I raised this past summer hoping to hatch out some 2nd generation chicks and see how they compared to the ones I purchased, but that won' t happen now. I suppose I could try to incubate some of the eggs the hens have laid in the past few days, but I don't want to raise them inside all winter long. FYI, the biggest one I butchered back in August when it was 11 weeks, rather than 6 months old was just a touch over 5 pounds. Most came in around 4 to 4 1/2.

that was a cute video and a very good doggy but i had to think to my self how much patience the dog would have if the rooster tried to mate with him
