Rooster Sick, Sleepy, Dizzy, Lathargic

Well, this morning I realized why my sick Roo has been walking around so slowly.... HE IS QUITE BLIND. I spent 4 hours this morning watching him as I cleaned and disinfected the entire coop (what a job). I let them out of the pen as I do every morning to free range in the yard, He didn't get far out of the pen, then sat down and put his head under his week and went to sleep. If he cant see he must think it is night time! This also explains why he stayed so long on the roost in the hen house.

ANYWAY... I couldn't stand to see him stumbling around anymore... so he is now in ROOSTER HEAVEN. I hated to do it, but sometimes you have to. We really liked that ROO, raised him from a chick, he took very good care of the girls, all 15 of them, and gave us 2 batches of chicks. He was 1 year and 1 day old.

Thanks everybody!

Marek's disease can cause blindness. It is a viral disease in which lymphocytes infiltrate different organs and nerves. Watch the others for illness. Different chickens can present with different symptoms.

All afternoon I have been reading about the different diseases and their symptoms. I looked carefully at his eyes and they looked completely normal! No graying of the eye (Marek's), no discharge... I looked him all over, no bugs... the ONLY THING I noticed is on the front of his neck, where his waddles rubbed, were 2 little pimple-like bare spots. Not sure if this was due to rubbing and constant moisture there or a disease symptom. I will be keeping an extra close watch on the girls.

If anyone has any more ideas, let me know! Thanks!

my 1 week old cheek has the same! I have no clue why does he has it. or what is it. I am really worried!
