Rooster sitting?

But I wonder why mine Polish roo & hen and also Creole English roo & hen will roost in the nesting boxes day & nite. I do have a roosting bar for them, but they insist to roost in the nest most of the time. I've tried covering this area with cloth to discourage them and sometimes it works when it is really hot outside. Any other ideas?

I hope someone here has some advise for you. I just raise Silkies, and they do not roost, they just make a pile, no matter the temperature. I will never go out at night to the coop again, looking for one, I had to move 17 chcikens before I found the one I was looking for, they were not very happy about being woke up either.

My silkies don't roost...I did put up a perch and I have seen one bird on it in the middle of the day for a few minutes. But for the most part they pile on each other to sleep...I am always worried that they will suffocate.

my Rooster also sits on eggs, and he also checks in next door with the other hens to watch the girly show (he sits on the floor and my red star hens are up on their perch)

He is a sensitive guy, with a manly streak

I've heard that capons will brood, and if so then apparently they all must have it in them to some degree... Chicken gender is a strange and elastic thing....

Unusual behavior but not unheard of. I had a Modern Game male that did the same once. He was the only one I ever saw do it out of hundreds of males I've raised.
