OK so my beautiful rooster has turned on me and I removed his spurs (I thought) . It seems like only the cap came off and there is still a pointy thing left about a half inch long. What is that and can he use them on me ?

Well, in 4H, my grandson witnessed the other 4Hers taking off spurs with pliers. He said that there was still a small bit of the spur left that was much stronger than the rest of the spur. So what I'm guessing is that is the part of the spur that has developed more than the rest. I don't really know if that should be removed, because it seemed so "attached" to the rooster. The rest of the spur was still very sharp.

The remaining soft part under the 'cap' (outer sheath) is supposed to be there and it will harden back up shortly.....
.......and yes, he can still use it against you.

An aggressive rooster is about much more than how long his spurs are.

I'm thinking about turning him out in the yard. MAYBE he won't be as aggressive because he will have more space ? Only thing is we risk losing him to a predator. I don't want to eat him, I'm not that hungry LOL. But I don't like that he's in a small cage either. Guess it's worth a try ?

Usually if aggression is there it's not going to just go away....there are a lot of factors involved in human aggressive cockerels/cocks.

Let him out if you want..... if he misbehaves, get rid of him or search on 'rooster training'.
