Rooster standing over hen

So I’ve noticed one of my hens will sit down and the rooster will stand over her/beside her. It’s in different locations. He’s not mating her, he’s not even necessarily standing in the same direction. Is he just providing her some shade? The last time she was in a corner (where my porch and wall make a 90 degree). She’s just crouched down looking out at the yard and he’s standing right next to her facing the house. Probably a dumb question but have never noticed it before. They’re usually foraging or layed up under some trees or something. It is hot (Tennessee in July) so I figured she’s just resting and he’s giving her shade.

Yup, he's just on watch for her so she can fully relax.

The only behavior that looks similar but is negative is if she had her head stuck into the corner and he was waiting for her to shift so he could peck her head. Bullies do that, and bad roosters, or roosters unfamiliar with a new hen.
Since your hen was facing out of the corner it doesn't sound like that at all. Seems she was content :)
