I have a HUGE Delaware rooster who has suddenly become aggressive.

I raised him from a chick. I didn't cuddle him but I've handled him, hand fed him treats. I've lost most of my hens lately I believe due to stress (neighbours dog) and one I think he injured because he was too big for her.

Now there is just him and his sister left. (I'm not sure if chickens know their siblings but he doesn't seem to be mating with her) Last week I let them out and was bringing the food pail to the coop when he attacked me about three times. I thought it was just for the food. Yesterday I fed them, then let them out of the coop he came right at me and was really persistent.

He's also crowing constantly, it's almost nerve racking.

He's become hyper protective would be my guess, with his flock disappearing. Probably stressed too. The constant crowing is a sign of him needing to claim his territory, and willingness to defend his territory. He's not sure what has happened and is acting out the only way he knows how.

How old is he? Yes it probably is a combination of the stress from the attack and the pent up energy from not having enough girls. You can try adding some hens, that might calm him, but you may need to strongly consider culling him (I had to, he was starting to get aggressive, then we had a dog attack.

Unprovoked he chased after my one year old, jumped on her head, and cut her up. She is fine, no lasting damage, but the Rooster is no more)

So glad she wasn't injured any worse! Mary

Yes if he goes after a kid or my dog he is GONE!

I'ld like to try extra hens and a bigger fence to keep dogs away from the coop maybe before culling him but its a limited time offer :)
